Outreach Spotlight: Living Hope Community Centres |
|
Started in 1999, Living Hope Community Centre is a faith-based organisation in
the Southern Peninsula region of the Western Cape of South Africa. Our Ministry
focuses on the prevention, care and treatment of HIV and AIDS patients in this
area. We offer Palliative Care and Prevention Ministries to patients and members of
the community in Masiphumelele, Ocean View, Red Hill, Muizenberg, and Capricorn.
The foundation stone on which we
build is in the Lord Jesus Christ who said, "As much as you do for one of the
least of these, you do for Me." The majority of our staff, if not all, see
Living Hope as a calling, not just a job -- a calling to be broken bread and
poured-out wine to the communities of the Southern Peninsula.
Palliative Care includes caring for the patient in a holistic manner from the
diagnosis of the disease through to the bereavement process for the patients
family. We operate a 20-bed Health Care Centre at our Capri Property and
Home-Based Care Services in all the communities in which we work.
We also offer Prevention ministries through our Life Skills Educators, Lay
Counsellors and Support Group Facilitators.
During the past year, we have seen our Prevention Care ministries make great strides toward
educating not only children but the parents in the communities we serve. Our
Lay Counsellors and Home Based Care Givers have been offered classes in evangelism by
one of our Chaplain's,
Patrick Diba. Many of them have taken advantage of this teaching in order to be
better equipped to witness and win the patients and clients they see each day in
the homes they visit so playing their part in sharing in the Great Commission.
